‘Pandora’s Kids'‘, 2010

When I turned 10 in 1991, the kingdom of the Soviet Union (kingdom of false mirrors) began to fall apart. War and years of blockade have started in my country. Most of the time, we had no electricity so the whole family used to sit in one room to warm up. Adults would talk to each other in hushed tones about things we, as kids, couldn’t clearly understand. Snatches of talks were overlaid by our own myths and guesses. For my parents, those “dark years“ were a big challenge but for me it was a fairy time. Seating through long nights under candlelight that drew shadows in all corners of the dark rooms, transforms reality and its perception.
